PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

We are beginning the 111th year of the Ohio Elks Association and we can proudly say that we are the oldest state fraternal family of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. We have a rich and storied heritage. Over the years, the Leaders of our State have set goals to accomplish, with many being successfully attained. These goals could not be accomplished without everyone sharing a common bond and working together to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. This will be our motto this year, ELKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Our goal is to continue to grow in our ability to provide for others through our programs and at the same time begin to halt our decline in membership.

Our need to increase membership remains unchanged. However, we do need to recognize and emphasize the importance of retention of our Members and the ability to make our new Members, active and knowledgeable about our Order. This can be accomplished through a revitalized Orientation program. Orientation is not a onetime session, it is an ongoing process. A new Member will be a lasting member when we educate them first, and then build a bond of brotherly love.

So, for this New Year, I'm proposing the Elks of Ohio MAKE A DIFFERENCE, and bring in one new Member or bring back one lapsed Member. And for the State Officers, the challenge is to bring in or back two Members. Let's get our lapsed members back and keep them!

Through your labors of love and generous giving, Our Programs MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the lives of so many Ohioans each and every day. This is why you love to be an Elk!

It's the kind words and thank-yous we get from parents and students who receive our scholarships and grant awards. It's by helping educate kids to the dangers of drugs. It's through helping those afflicted with CP. It's reaching out in our communities to provide a service grant, aide the boy scouts and girl scouts, sponsor a little league team, or help save a child through mentoring. It's participating in the fun the kids and parents have during a Hoop-Shoot, a Soccer-Shoot, or an Elks Track & CC meet. It's the thank you a Veteran gives you, when you can't begin to thank them enough. It's how proud you are to be an American when a student recites an essay. It's being a lodge officer, memorizing the Ritual. It's the friendship and fellowship at the Lodge.
It's Elks working together serving a cause greater than ourselves. ELKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

And, a personal goal of mine for this year is to promote the Elks Junior Golf Program here in Ohio. Golf's a great game that you can play for a lifetime. This is an excellent opportunity for us to involve our youth in a fun program. I encourage you to start one today, you won't regret it.

Ohio Elks have done and will continue to do great things here in the Buckeye state. We are purpose driven and passionate to serve. Ohio ELKS MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

God Bless,
Doug Schiefer
